Jimmy Graham Looks To Dunk The Competition

New Orleans Saints rookie TE Jimmy Graham was very impressive during offseason workouts and the team could find ways to create mismtaches for him by the end of the season, according to Michael Lombardi, of NFL Network.

Graham is an incredibly athlete, but until his Senior season at Miami, hadn’t played football since High School.  However, Graham’s college basketball experience has led many to compare him to San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, who traveled along a similar path.

Though he could at some point develop into a dominating weapon, it is unlikely that Graham will offer much production as a rookie.  He may prove valuable in goal line situations as a pass catcher, but he will probably be used in limited situations.

Mixed Reviews Thus Far for Joe Haden

NFL.com Senior Analyst Mike Lombardi weighed in on CB Joe Haden’s subpar performance thus far in camp sessions. He said: “Haden has not been very impressive in camps and might not have enough speed to play corner. Maybe all that talk about some in the organization wanted to take Kyle Wilson over Haden was true.”

Mancini’s Take: I don’t know if Haden’s performance has been quite as negative as some are making it out to be. The former Gator has undoubtedly hit some rough patches, but he’s also made plays and, at times, even shown good recovery speed. He’ll never be Darrell Green, but let’s not make him out to be Otis “My Man” Smith just yet either. If Haden appeared a step slow on occasion, it would be too easy to blame all that on his pure foot speed or lack thereof. The rookie still has a lot to

Bears, ‘Boys Reel in Unga, Price-Brent

The Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys claimed RB Harvey Unga and DT Josh Price-Brent respectively in this year’s version of supplemental draft. While the Cowboys got their man by using their sixth-round pick, the Bears took Unga in the seventh round.

At first glance, Chicago’s selection seems a bit curious when you consider the fact that their top two backs (Matt Forte and Chester Taylor) are both plowing inside runners, which is exactly what Unga was at BYU.

There’s nothing fancy about the 240-pound bruiser. He’s the type of player who’ll gain the tough yards by ramming the ball up the middle.

My guess here is that Unga will be looked at as a developmental project, who will be groomed to eventually serve as a fullback. Unga has enough athleticism to perform in a Le’Ron McClain type of role, where he’ll be counted on to covert in short-yardage situations.

Bradshaw Rips Jimmy Clausen to Shreds

WNDU-TV reports that during a recent appearance promoting a RV company, Hall-of-Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw didn’t hesitate to speak his mind on rookie signal caller Jimmy Clausen, who he called “just another guy.” “I don’t like his motion,” Bradshaw explained. “I think he’s too slow. He played for such a big institution, I just thought he was way too slow with his delivery, way too much shoulder action. Physically, in the way he threw a football, I just didn’t like him.”

Mancini’s Take: Clausen has been getting pummeled by the media ever since he declared for April’s draft. His supposedly arrogant demeanor hasn’t done him any favors in that regard. But the one thing I will credit him for as far as his attitude goes is the courage he’s shown on the field to play with two torn ligaments in his right toe. Bradshaw isn’t off base in slamming the
