Q&A: Roddy Jones, Georgia Tech

Quotes from The ACC Kickoff (Day One) held today at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

People have always questioned whether or not the offense can continue to be successful, what do you think entering year No. 3 in the offense?

Coach Johnson was successful at Georgia Southern and at Navy and there is no reason the offense can’t continue to be successful for years to come.

What can we expect to see from the offense this season?

I think you’ll see more of the same. I think you’ll see some fireworks. We’re going to continue to come out and run the football first.

And you, individually?

I am just trying to go out and do the best I can. When I don’t, I try to make it the best for everyone else on the team, whether it’s by

Q&A: Jason Peters, Georgia Tech

Quotes from The ACC Kickoff (Day One) held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Does the 3-4 defense require bigger, stronger players on the line?

The 3-4 requires linemen to be strong. At this point, we can only get so much bigger and stronger, but what we can control is how hard we work. I think the work we did in the spring, in the offseason, will really help us.

And what is your weight?

My target weight is 280-285 and I’m close to that now.

What about the depth on the defensive line?
<br

I think we will surprise a lot of people with our depth on the line. Now that we are in a 3-4 I think you’ll see us rotate guys quite often.

How close are you to fully understanding the 3-4?

I

Q&A: Brandon Brooks, Miami (Ohio)

Getting to know Miami’s Brandon Brooks: Brooks is a junior offensive lineman for the Miami RedHawks. Brooks was named Miami’s2008 Freshman of the Year as he started all 12 games at left guard. Last season, Brooks started all 12 contests for the RedHawks at the left tackle position, earning second team All-Mid American Conference honors. Brooks is a native of Milwaukee, Wisc., and is majoring in economics.

How did you get started playing football?

I got started playing football watching my older cousins play for the South Holland Jets, a neighborhood team. In the fourth grade, I was able to play and from there the game just grew on me and I’ve been playing ever since.

What would your superhero name be?

If I had to make one up, I guess it would be “Mr. Gifted.”

Holliday Delivering the Goods in Houston

WR Trindon Holliday might be “the most popular player at Texans training camp,” according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

Mancini’s Take: Holliday wasted no time at all turning heads at recent OTA sessions by flashing his all-world speed on deep patterns. As a kick returner, the 5-5 dynamo has the ability to put his acceleration and cutting skills to good use while hiding behind his blockers, but his rawness as a pure route runner will almost certainly limit him as a wide receiver. All the speed in the world can’t make up for the fact that the former Bayou Bengal only had seven receptions for 72 yards during his college career.  His size is also a detriment in trying to catch passes in traffic, not to mention the fact that his 165-pound body isn’t built to lay any downfield blocks for his teammates. Let’s just appreciate Holliday for
