Scout’s Notebook: Northwestern @ Penn St.

SCOUT’S NOTEBOOK: NORTHWESTERN PENN STATE

A fast start by Northwestern didn’t deter Penn State from carrying out the historic task of obtaining an unprecedented 400th win for coach Joe Paterno. The inspired Nittany Lions played their game of the year by manhandling their opponents at the line of scrimmage and making well-timed big plays in the passing game. A number of Joe Pa’s boys deserved game balls in this one, which saw the Blue and White prevail by a 35-21 tally.

Wisniewski leads…Royster follows

Penn State’s offensive line took another step in the right direction in Week 10 by pounding their Big Ten rivals into submission to the tune of 287 yards on the ground. Both Evan Royster and Silas Redd were able to navigate through crater-like holes, particularly in the second half.

While every member of the front five did his part, right guard Stefen Wisniewski stood

Scout’s Notebook: TCU @ Utah

This game, which had so much hype surrounding it, turned out to be a one-sided affair. TCU dominated from the get-go and used its smothering defense to hold Utah to seven points, while the Utes struggled to contain the nearly-perfect Andy Dalton and the TCU offense. In his biggest game of his young career, Jordan Wynn struggled to find a rhythm and showed he still has a long way to go in his maturation process. Here are the notable moments from the players involved.

Andy Dalton had undoubtedly his finest game this season. He started with a perfect opening drive, completing all four of his passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. On the touchdown pass, he identified the single coverage and gave a beautiful pump fake before placing the pass over the top of the defender for the score. He struggled on TCU’s second

The Rosstradamus: Week 9 Ramble

We’re halfway (sort of) through the season and the NFL has its wishes coming true in the form of parity. There isn’t a team with less than two losses. There are 11 teams, by my count, that could win the Super Bowl and not surprise me at this point. Every team has flaws. Every team has proven that they’re beatable. It’s a crazy season of up-for-grabs football…and I love it.

The Jets won. That’s really the best thing that can be said about the team’s effort against Detroit. New York woke up just in time to escape the Motor City with a 23-20 overtime win. LaDainian Tomlinson finally looked like the man who left San Diego, rushing 15 times for just 55 yards (3.67 ypc) against the league’s 27th ranked run defense. Perhaps it was a blip on the radar…perhaps it was a sign of things to

Randy Moss Finds Shelter in Tennessee

Taking a line from the Rolling Stones, Oh, a storm is threat’ning, My very life today, If I don’t get some shelter, Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away. The talented yet impertinent Randy Moss should iPod Mick and the boys and listen ever so closely to those lyrics. They reflect his current status in the NFL; Tennessee Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher has given him shelter from the self-inflicted storm. Aristotle said, “Excellence or virtue is a settled disposition of the mind that determines our choice of actions and emotions and consists essentially in observing the mean relative to us…a mean between two vices, that which depends on excess, and that which depends on defect.”

Moss is at the twilight of a Hall of Fame career, although it’s not all amazing one-handed grabs we remember; it’s also the water bottle sprays, taking plays off, and a traffic
