Scout’s Notebook: Stanford @ Washington

SCOUT’S NOTEBOOK: STANFORD@WASHINGTON

The much-ballyhooed match-up between Andrew Luck and Jake Locker ended up being not much of a contest, as the former authored a sparkling performance in beating the Huskies 41-0. What was particularly noteworthy about the duel was how Luck utilized his legs, as well as his golden arm, to lead his team to victory.

Luck favors the Cardinal

Andrew Luck made all the right moves in rainy downtown Seattle by completing 19 of 26 pass attempts for 192 yards along with tossing one touchdown and an interception before a contingent of about 15-20 NFL scouts.

The red-shirt sophomore was in control early on. He showed great natural ability to throw the ball on a play-action rollout on which he threw a perfect strike across his body to his tight end Coby Fleener for 10 yards.

He followed that by throwing a 12-yard deep out to senior wide out

The Rosstradamus: Week 8 Ramble

What a strange week of football it was. Perhaps it was Halloween. Two high-powered offenses played 60 minutes without scoring a touchdown…there was another lay-down job by this season’s most disappointing team…we saw a near-tie…quarterbacks knocked out of games and benched…a Hall of Famer released…and a game in (gasp) England!

Let’s start with the New York Jets, just to get it out of the way. They were shutout at home by the banged-up Green Bay Packers 9-0 and saw their five-game winning streak come to an ugly end. Three turnovers, awful choices to challenge refereeing decisions, Mark Sanchez’ game-long inaccuracy, and key drops by wide receivers were the razor blades in the Big Apple offense on Sunday. I fully expected the Jets’ defense to put the shackles on Aaron Rodgers, which is why I thought the New Yorkers would steamroll Green Bay. After all, the Jets were

Kevin Riley Likely Out for Season

(BERKELEY) – Fifth-year senior quarterback Kevin Riley is expected to miss the remainder of the 2010 season due to an injury he suffered during the first quarter of a game at Oregon State on October 30. MRI tests conducted Monday showed a significant injury to Riley’s left knee.

“It’s upsetting to see Kevin end his collegiate career like that,” said Cal head coach Jeff Tedford. “He has been a very strong competitor during his time at Cal and has dedicated himself to our program. He’s a great team player and has a lot of passion for Cal football. He’s provided a lot of great moments.”

Riley is among Cal’s all-time leaders in touchdown passes (50, No. 5), total offense (6,136, No. 6), passer efficiency (131.55, No. 7), passing yardage (6,182, No. 8), 300-yard passing games (2, No. 9-T) and 250-yard passing games (7, No.
