Ryan Broyles Hints He May Giddy Up On Out?

Both junior receiver Ryan Broyles and junior linebacker Travis Lewis say they’ve yet to make a decision about whether they’ll return for their senior seasons. Broyles said Wednesday he plans to file paperwork and game film with the NFL draft advisory committee, which provides draft projections to underclassmen to provide them an idea of where they’ll be selected should they leave early.

“I’m not ready to disclose that information,” Broyles said. “I love playing here. I’ve thought about it a little bit, but I haven’t decided what I want to do. I’ve still got one game left. I’ll send my paperwork in and see where it goes from there. I’m not going to make any decision until after the bowl game for sure.”

Lewis will probably also file paperwork with the NFL draft advisory committee. But defensive coordinator Brent Venables is advising Lewis to

Alfonzo Dennard Has NFL On Mind | Mom "Shaky"

Alfonzo Dennard, a junior who has developed a reputation as a lockdown cornerback, is mulling whether to return to Nebraska declare for the NFL draft?

In a recent interview, Dennard, a 5-foot-10, 195-pounder from Rochelle, Ga., was quick to note that he’s considering many factors. His mother, Rose Mary Dennard, is a bit “shaky” right now, he said. When asked if he meant her finances or her health, Dennard said “both.”

“It depends on what my mom does,” Dennard said. “If my mom’s doing well, I’m doing well, and I might just stay. But I’ve got to help my family.”

Earlier this week, he wrote on his Facebook status that it was time to “get paid” and make his mother proud. He later tried to clarify, writing that the comment was not in reference to leaving school early.

Christian Ponder Has Second Elbow Surgery

Florida State QB Christian Ponder had surgery late last week to remove scar tissue from the elbow on his throwing arm. Ponder will not practice until FSU arrives in Atlanta the day after Christmas, but maintains he intends to play in the Seminoles Chick-fil-A Bowl date with South Carolina on New Year’s Eve. Last week’s surgery was the second on the elbow Ponder had this season after he previously had built-up fluid in the bursa sac and fascia removed in mid-October. Ponder then missed the ACC championship game early in the month when blood was found in the joint. Ponder indicated that the surgery lat week removed scar tissue that was impeding the healing process in his elbow, but there is no structural damage.

USC Loses Pair To NFL | Casey & Smith Declare

ESPN is reporting that Southern California juniors DT Jurrell Casey and OT Tyron Smith will be entering the 2011 draft. Casey was just named USC’s MVP for the past season after he posted 67 tackles including 4.5 sacks, while Smith was voted the team’s best offensive lineman. While both are quick and athletic, neither the 305-pound Casey who is barely 6-0 feet tall, nor the 6-5, 285-pound Smith are all that big by NFL draft standards. At this time, Casey figures to be a mid-to-late second rounder, while Smith looks like a late third or early 4th round type.

UNC LB Bruce Carter Has Surgery On Torn ACL

North Carolina announced today that star LB Bruce Carter, a first-round prospect for the 2011 draft, will miss the team’s bowl game after undergoing reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ACL. Carter, a Butkus Award finalist this year, had been considered to be a potential top 15-20 pick at the upcoming draft, but now likely will not be available for the combine or pro day work-out schedule. Carter, in fact, was one of two veteran Tar Heels to undergo surgery this week as senior OG Alan Pelc, a second tier prospect for this year’s draft, had his shoulder operated on Monday. Like Carter, Pelc will not be able to play in UNC’s bowl game.

Could Be Last Game For Matt Reynolds At BYU

Once BYU’s season ends, Matt Reynolds has a big decision to make. Reynolds must choose whether to return to Provo for his senior year or enter the 2011 National Football League draft. Will it be his last game in a Cougar uniform?

“I’ve thought about it, for sure. As far as decisions go, we haven’t made any,” said the 6-foot-6, 329-pounder this week. “We’re still kind of waiting before we make a decision. I’m just looking forward to the (New Mexico Bowl) and focused on that right now.”

When it comes time to decide his future, Reynolds will talk to his wife, Brianna, as well as his father, BYU assistant head coach Lance Reynolds (who played in the NFL), and his older brothers, Lance Jr., and Dallas, who are former Cougars, and younger brother Houston, who is a backup BYU O-lineman.

Houston QB Case Keenum Files Appeal To NCAA

Houston has filed an appeal with the NCAA requesting a sixth year of eligibility for QB Case Keenum. Keenum, the school’s all-time leading passer, had his senior year cut short when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third week of the campaign. The previous season, Keenum amassed almost 6,000 yards of total offense and threw for 48 touchdowns. In order to qualify for the additional year, though, Houston will have to prove that Keenum redshirted his true freshman because of injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers Young Money Crew

PITTSBURGH, PA–We are all familiar with the Marx Brothers, most notably Groucho and his family of entertaining brothers during the 1900s until close into the 1950s. Although for being a coinsurer of football and not early motion pictures, when I hear the name Marx Brothers, I don’t think of Groucho and comedy acts. I think of the ‘Marks Brothers’, the duo of Mark Clayton and Mark Duper from the Miami Dolphins, the receivers who played with HOF quarterback Dan Marino. Nor do I recall little blue people living in the forest when I hear ‘Smurfs.’ The very first thing that pops into my head is the Washington Redskins trio of receivers (part of the ‘Fun Bunch’) Virgil Seay, Alvin Garrett, and Charlie Brown, who earned that nickname in
