(1-12) Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State: He didn’t come out of the gates as strongly as many expected him to. In addition to ball security issues caused by holding the ball too far from his body, Mathews must also learn how to be a more patient back. He has the tools to be a star if he simply follows his blocks to get through the first level. The developing runner did make some strides during the last quarter of the season. From the sound of things, he’s working really hard to correct his flaws. Grade: C
