If you are hoping for news on whether Andrew Luck will leave early for the NFL, be prepared to wait. The Stanford quarterback said he won’t make a decision about his future until after the Cardinal face Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3.

Luck said that he’s about a 1 1/2 years away from graduating and getting his degree is weighs heavy on his parents.

“It’s important to them,” Luck said. “They’ve instilled that value in me. It’s important to me as well.”

Two of Virginia Tech’s talented tailbacks, redshirt sophomore Ryan Williams and junior Darren Evans, are in the process of submitting paperwork to an NFL draft advisory board in order to evaluate their potential draft status, according to the Washington Post.

“Just my gut feeling, I don’t think both of them will come back,” running backs coach Billy Hite. “But there’s no real rhyme or reason behind it right now.”

According to CollegeSportsBlog.com, Justin Blackmon said he’s talked to Dallas Cowboys rookie Dez Bryant, a former college teammate, who has urged him to avoid agents or anyone who could be considered associates of agents while pondering his NFL draft decision.

“He told me, ‘Don’t get mixed up in things that I did,'” said Blackmon, reflecting on Bryant’s NCAA-mandated suspension that cost him most of his final season at OSU. “He told me… it’s not even worth the trouble. Just be smart and stay out of trouble.”

Blackmon also acknowledged that the potential NFL lockout could influence his decision to turn pro or return to school. “From what I’m hearing about the lockout that may be happening next year, that would give me more reason to stay. But that’s a decision I will make after the bowl game.”

Standout junior tight end Kyle Rudolph and wide receiver Michael Floyd have asked to be evaluated by the NFL Draft Advisory Board, according to an ESPN report.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly acknowledged the report the report. “We are heavily recruiting them,” Kelly said. “We are recruiting them for Notre Dame.”

Rudolph who missed most of the season with a torn hamstring injury, is viewed as a round one/round two-type prospect.

Floyd, who saw his production drop off with the departure of Jimmy Clausen this season, is currently ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver prospect in the country, according to the NFL Draft Bible, which includes eligible underclassmen.

Hawkeye leading wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos has likely jeopardized his chance at a NFL career.

The 23-year-old, who was arrested Tuesday on seven drug-related charges and suspended from the Iowa football team. He was released on bail, but faces up to 7 years if found guilty.

Johnson-Koulianos was keeping a drug house at his home several blocks from campus, as well as possession of cocaine and marijuana after police said he tested positive for both.

He was considered a mid-round prospect but DJK has numerous legal matters ahead of him in his immediate future and has zero chance of being drafted or even receiving a workout as an undrafted free agent at this point.

It was a case of status quo this weekend in the NFC, as eight of the conference’s nine playoff contenders won. Among those battling for a post-season berth only Tampa Bay suffered a defeat, to Atlanta, and it was not a surprising loss. The AFC cannot say the same: Indianapolis lost at home to Dallas and San Diego lost for the second time this season to the Oakland Raiders. The pair of high-profile losses left Jacksonville and Kansas City in charge of their respective divisions. That cannot be too surprising since those teams have been lurking for months, but most of us thought it was just a matter of time before the…fancier teams assumed control.

After Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt resigned on Tuesday, a CBS website reported that Jonathan Baldwin would declare for the 2011 NFL draft.

But in a statement issued Wednesday, Baldwin rescinded his remarks:

“Yesterday, I received a text message from a reporter at a time when I was very emotional,” Baldwin said in a statement distributed by the school’s sports media department. “Because of everything that happened, I wasn’t using the best judgment and am very sorry about the things that were printed. I love my teammates and coaches at Pitt. I have not made a final decision on the NFL Draft. My only focus is on my commitment to my team and preparing to win our bowl game next month.”
