Scouting The Offensive Linemen: Class of 2013

Here’s a look at the top sophomore offensive line prospects entering the 2010 season.

1. Barrett Jones, Alabama (Offensive Guard) – Rarely does an offensive guard top a list of offensive linemen, and it’s safe to speculate that by the time the 2013 NFL Draft rolls around an offensive tackle will be the top NFL prospect coming out of the trenches. But for now, we’re going with Mr. Jones. At 6’4” and 301 pounds the Alabama product has excellent length and a solid frame, but the NFL looks for their guards to tip the scales at 320-plus pounds so he will have hit the weight room to bulk up before he is ready to play for pay. After a shoulder injury cost him his true-freshman season three games in (medical red-shirt), Jones started all 14 games for the BCS Champion Crimson Tide in 2009 and earned freshman

Buffalo Bills 2010 Team Yearbook

BUFFALO BILLS 2010 TEAM YEARBOOK

While some fans were very critical of Buffalo Bills teams of the 1990s for their 0-4 record in the Super Bowl, at least team diehards back then were able to witness huge points being scored on a weekly basis by star performers and future Hall-of-Famers.

The days of the no-huddle, K-Gun offense featuring Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and others combined with an intimidating defense led by mainstays Bruce Smith, Cornelius Bennett and company are now nothing but a cold, distant memory.

Whereas Ralph Wilson’s franchise was looked upon as a perennial elite squad, the past 11 seasons haven’t quite been so kind. In fact 11 seasons have now come and gone since the original AFL franchise last competed in postseason play.

A lethal cocktail of poor coaching and aimless drafting has heavily contributed towards this team’s decisive collapse.

Scouting The Tight Ends: Class of 2013

Here’s a look at the top sophomore tight end prospects entering the 2010 season.

1. Orson Charles, Georgia – While Charles didn’t put up eye-popping numbers, he did finish third on the squad with 374 yards, just three yards behind standout freshman receiver Tavarres King for second behind A.J. Green. Moreover, the tight end was consistent, catching at least one pass in 12 of Georgia’s 13 games in his true-freshman campaign. When you watch Charles catch the football you might make the mistake of assuming he’s a wide receiver. At 6’3” and 235 pounds he is still growing into the tight end position and tops our list based on his skills as a pass catcher. The Bulldog is a superb athlete and was one of the top

Harry Carson: Tom Coughlin ‘Dead Man Walking’

Speaking at a prostate cancer awareness engagement in Florham Park, NJ yesterday, former New York Giants Hall of Famer Harry Carson touched on several topics about the organization he helped earn two rings for entering the 2010 season.

With Tom Coughlin on the hot seat, there is no doubt that this is a make-it-or-break year for the New York Giants. And Carson had no qualms talking openly to the crowd on hand about Tom Coughlin’s job security, stating the Giants head coach enters the season as a ‘dead man walking’ and that a slow start to the season could mean an in-season change.

It should be noted that the two-time Super Bowl champion and nine-time pro bowler also stated that he has a close relationship with Mrs. Ann Mara (whom most consider the ‘real’ owner of the Giants) and that they have had conversations, which makes Carson

Jason Pierre-Paul Turning Heads

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is drawing rave reviews from some of the team’s defensive members, according to ESPNNewYork.com’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “He is a phenomenal athlete,” fellow end Mathias Kiwanuka said. “The best is yet to come. He has a lot of untapped potential.

After a porous defense that even Harry Carson said he couldn’t stomach last season, Giants fans have reason to be excited. Jason Pierre-Paul could be the best pure pass-rusher the GMen have had since Michael Strahan.

Yes, he can be better than Justin Tuck!

The fact that Osi Umenyiora and the aforementioned Kiwanuka are both entering the final year of their contract means Pierre’Paul’s rookie performance could dictate who returns to the team next season.

This was the ultimate risk/reward pick and the biggest gamble Giants GM Jerry Reese has made yet but if JPP taps

Jerrel Jernigan Sets New Standards At Troy

Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan (5’9, 185) told The Dothan Eagle that he has high hopes for the upcoming season, one being a desire to nab 1,200 or 1,300 yards receiving.

The Trojan Warrior earned First Team All-Sun Belt wide receiver and all-purpose player last season with his 1,101 yard performance and is on target to set the all-time school mark for receiving yards and receptions.

He currently owns a late-round grade but if Jernigan achieves the lofty expectations he has set for himself, it is possible he could very well wind up being a mid round selection.

USC Linebacker Transfers To Georgia

In the first of what many think will be several transfers from USC, Georgia picked up linebacker Jarvis Jones.  Per an NCAA waiver, Jones will be eligible to play right away, which will help boost the new 3-4 Georgia defense.

According to reports, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Jones also considered Florida State, Clemson, Alabama and North Carolina.

Jones missed the final five games of the season last year due to a neck/spine injury but has since been medically cleared to play. He’ll have a long climb to earn himself a draftable grade but he has a few seasons to do so.

Look for more USC players to take advantage of the NCAA waiver and make moves soon.
