Trouble Finds Weslye Saunders | TE Suspended

Weslye Saunders, the South Carolina tight end embroiled in an NCAA investigation, has been “temporarily suspended” from the team, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said Monday night.

Saunders was not at Monday’s practice – the first one the senior has missed since being linked last month to the NCAA’s wide-ranging probe of possible illegal agent activity involving players at a number of SEC and ACC schools.

But Spurrier said Saunders was suspended for an undisclosed violation of team rules, and it had “nothing to do with the NCAA” investigation.

“Weslye has been, I guess you’d say, temporarily suspended for a violation of team rules,” Spurrier said. “And his situation will be determined a little later.”

Likewise, Spurrier said the suspension was not tied to Saunders’ involvement with the Whitney Hotel. Saunders is one of at least seven players under NCAA scrutiny for their long-term

Blount, Hall Among Rookie Standouts on MNF

Tennessee’s LeGarrette Blount and Arizona’s Max Hall both put forth outstanding efforts in the Titan’s 24-10 preseason victory on Monday Night Football. Blount was a high-flying battering ram who bullied his way to 42 rushing yards on 9 carries. The running back put his athletic wares on display by showcasing a violent running style that saw him change directions and hurdle his opponents. The 240-pound rookie was especially impressive on a fourth-quarter run in which he was patient to the hole and waited for his blockers to clear a path on a designed sweep. Going forward, the athletic marvel should work on running a little lower and the keeping aerial maneuvers to a minimum if he hopes to have a long career in the pros. Blount may end up serving as a late-game closer in games where Tennessee jumps out to a big lead. Similarly, Hall looked sharp

Pac-10 Player Watch: Nelson Rosario

College Football Insiders “Pac-10 players to watch for 2010” series continues on the offensive side of the ball with UCLA receiver Nelson Rosario.

UCLA is, and has been in dire need of a playmaker on offense. You can blame the offensive line, the quarterbacks, the overall talent level, a lack of coaching, or whatever you want. But the fact remains: the Bruins have not had a player on the first or second All Conference team at any skill position since 2005 and the days of Maurice Jones-Drew. At 6’5”, with good speed and the jumping ability good enough to finish third in the long jump and tenth in the high jump at the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships, Nelson Rosario has the chance to give the Bruins a very effective deep
